Traditional Alpaca Mesa Cloths are woven by Benita Apaza (Pampamesayoq Don Agustin’s wife)
Contemporary Mesa Cloths are woven by Remigia (Don Santos’s wife), and other items are woven by Remigia, Sebastiana, and Rosa in Q’eros, Peru. Each Mesa cloth takes over a month to weave.
Most of these textiles are naturally dyed, woven with handspun alpaca or baby alpaca wool. Girls learn to weave in their early teens, and there are very high levels of weaving, spinning and knitting skills passed down through the generations.
