Sacred Space or Scared Space?

flowers

The most sacred space for me is in nature.

As a student of The Four Winds Training, Alberto came and talked to us about 2012. I remember he said that we would need to be able to hold our own ‘sacred space’, in order to help others do the same.

What happens when we open sacred space?

When we open sacred space, we are creating an invisible protective energy dome. This shuts out the ‘business’ of our modern world and helps us to re-connect with our inner selves, allowing healing for ourselves and others to unfold. We can call on the help of the natural world through invoking the four cardinal directions. This invites their animal archetypes and the universe to provide a safe space for us to do our ceremonial work or meditate. Sacred Space also allows us access to the luminous medicine men and women, who help us from the unseen worlds with our healing or ceremonial work. Opening sacred space helps me to breathe.

What is a Wirracocha?

Meditation with caduceus and chakras

Meditation with our Wirracocha open in sacred space can help us come into balance.

Another way of opening sacred space is by bringing down the light of our eighth chakra (or Wirracocha) around us like a golden cloak. The eighth chakra is the energy centre full of divine love. I see it almost like a fishing net of golden thread around me that can be gently woven with my fingers if I see any holes. When closed, the wirracocha can be seen like like the light of a thousand suns above our heads. It is above our physical body but within our energy field and once activated, it expands the power of our sacred space many times. It helps us to feel very connected to spirit, as well as relaxing whoever we’re working with. It is often felt as a warm blanket of golden energy that helps to shift or melt any heaviness we or our clients may be feeling.

Opening Our Wirracocha.

Open this sacred space by imagining your eighth chakra like a beautiful radiant sun above your head. It’s like an orb the colour of gold. Bring your hands over your chest into prayer pose.  Slowly raise your hands, still in prayer pose, until they are above your head and in your eighth chakra.  Sense your fingertips entering your eighth chakra, just above your head .Very slowly, like a peacock opening its fan, turn your palms outwards and then extend your arms, bringing them  down to your sides. Imagine that you are bringing this cloak of golden light or a golden net all around you. Now bask in this net of light surrounding you.

This is a perfect antidote to the scared space a lot of us inhabit at work, or in the outside world. It is a way of coming into Ayni, or in balance/ reciprocity with the world. In the Q’ero tradition, we can create an inner sanctuary that helps us to breathe with any uncertainty, vulnerabilty or anxiety we may be feeling. The druid path also offers an inner sanctuary called the grove, which can be created in sacred space and I would also encourage you to create a safe place that you can go to in your mind’s eye. This safe place can have a virtual altar, your power animals or guides can also meet you there. In my next blog I will be giving other ideas as to how to work with your archetypes and guide you to creating your own safe space.

May you fly with beauty
